Stetind – the cradle of eco-philosophy

Stetind is the name of a grand monolith, sculptured through the ages by glaciers,
where Norway is at its narrowest. Named Stáddá by the the Sami people, this
ancient landmark for navigating in the archipelago of Lofoten, is soaring more
than 4000 feet out of Stefjord, a branch of Tysfjord. Norwegian mountaineers
enjoying this gift of the gods for a fortnight in the summer of 1966, also engaged
themselves in the future of free nature: Philosophy (values orientation) + Ecology
(objectivity) = Eco-philosophy (an instrument for challenging modernity).
